Research Summary
Lab Members
Post-Doctoral Researcher
Andre Ribeiro
Andre is a computer scientist studying causality and game theory. He did his masters at MIT, his PhD at Cambridge, and his 1st postdoc at Harvard. He is currently doing his 2nd postdoc at UCL.
He enjoys solving puzzles and playing the saxphone.
Post-Doctoral Researcher
Roman Zapien-Campos
Roman specialises in stochastic processes and wants to be trained as an experimentalist. He did his PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Biology.
He enjoys football and running, watching movies, building electronics, and cooking.
Post-Doctoral Researcher
Sonal
Sonal is interested in understanding how metabolic interactions in microbial communities are shaped by nutrient stress. Currently, she (willingly!) studies yeast populations interacting via stinky gases.
In her free time, she enjoys social dancing and hiking.
Consultant
Alex Yuan
Alex is currently developing statistical technique to infer relationships between ecosystem players purely based on observational time series. He did his PhD in the Shou lab.
Alex’s favourite terrible science joke: What’s a pirate’s favorite molecular biology tool? P-C-Arrrghh!
PhD student (Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship)
Jamila Rowland-Chandler
Jamila is interested in borrowing ideas from nature to improve artificial microbial communities. Specifically, how can we utilise ecological instability to improve community diversity and variation? She previously studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge.
In her spare time, Jamila enjoys singing opera and playing D&D.
MRes Student
Jialu Li
Jialu is working on experimental evolution and selection of microbial communities.
MRes Student
Linh Hoang
Linh is working with Alex and Caroline on testing dependence between time series.
In her free time she practices Aikido and tutors programming, which she is, in her own words “very talented” at.
M.Sci Student
Patricia Gimeno Le Paih
Patricia is working on experimental evolution and selection of microbial communities.
Undergraduate student
Cansu Oktem
Cansu is a Computational biology M.Sci student. She is working with Roman on parameter inference and model selection in microbial communties.
Undergraduate student
Andy Sun
..
Resident Physicist
David Skelding
David designs robots and other equipment to make previously challenging experiments much easier.
In his spare time, David enjoys homesteading and gigging.
